Many of us have good self-control while others can't resist. Waste of money might help overcome boredom and many people overspend to change their minds from daily life stresses. But now we want you to act a little wise. You should now sit and think about why is it happening and how to control this overspending.
Few Common Reasons You May be Overspending and Ways to Control
To reach the core of this issue, we will try to find the reasons behind overspending and then will lookout for ways to stop them.
1. Discount Offers are The Most Appealing
One of the most commonly known reasons behind overspending is sales or discount offers. Any brand or grocer lures the client to do unnecessary buying by offering sales or discounts. Sitting peacefully on a couch at home in the evening, scrolling down your media pages, you just read the word "Discount" and here you are tempted to avail of the offer!
How to Control
Every seller knows the weakness of the buyer that a red discount or sale tag will attract the customer whether online or crossing a shop in the market. We want you to know that all the discounts are not real, most of the time many sellers appreciate the actual price beforehand. When the buyer buys discounted item thinking they are getting the benefit, they are just buying it at a normal price, and the seller gets the full money.
2. A Big Thanks to Credit Cards
A big thanks to our credit cards that never let us think for once that no doubt you can swipe it as many times as you want to, but in the end, you are the one who is going to pay back. Several people go out and even if they are out of budget or have no money in hand, their credit card gives them an option to purchase. Credit cards help ease the purchase pain by not letting the buyer give money from pocket or even looking at the receipt after purchase.
How to Control
As long as we have this extra option of borrowed money, we cannot control ourselves from overspending. So in my opinion first thing, you need to do is try to avoid keeping a credit card. But if you need to keep it, then don't swipe it without any reason or leave it home when you go out for any buying or party. When you will pay with cash and use the calculated amount only then you will be able to keep a check.
3. Shopping Without A-List
Going out for groceries or shopping should be done with a list. Without a list, you can get yourself into impulse buying which results in making you a hungry shopper.
How to Control
So, one way to limit impulse spending is to define a budget. And make a quick list of items needed and when you enter the market, go to the desired stuff aisle.
The next step is to carry money according to the list of things and your budget. If you are an online buyer, make a buy it again list and never let that list include any extra item. In this way, you can easily buy the same stuff without wasting time and money.
4. To Impress Everyone Around
Last but not least, one of the deadliest traps of overspending is comparing yourself with others and trying to give them the impression that you can spend a lot like them. In an attempt to impress others, you end-up financing stuff that devours your income and leads to overspending. To all my beloved readers, I request you all not to become a part of this vicious cycle in which you try to overspend to impress someone who is trying to impress you. It brings nothing except the loss to both parties.
How to Control
In my opinion, it might seem that this isn’t a big reason but trust me buying with the urge of impressing others is the worst kind and badly affects your finances. Ask yourself who you are trying to impress or why are you even trying before any unnecessary purchase, whether a car or new clothes.
Remember that questioning yourself helps you kick out overspending and pave the path to financial success by indulging in good spending habits!
